13 years of grief counseling brought me to this

Hi friend,

As a therapist, I see grief and loss up close and personal.

I watch as clients run their hands across my faux leather chairs, hands faltering as if wanting to hold onto loved ones that will never come back.

I listen as they speak about exes, mothers, fathers, or partners as if they can still hear them – even though they’re long gone.

I sit in silence as sobs rush out, bringing with them a torrent of sorrow, pain, anger, longing, and love.

But I don’t offer hope that things will get better. I can’t guarantee that they will.

Instead, I offer optimism (which is not the same as hope).

Over the years, I’ve learned that grief and loss are inevitable parts of the human experience.

Navigating those difficult emotions can be challenging, but finding healthy ways to process them is essential for healing.

Writing through your grief provides a powerful way of expressing those emotions and gaining insight from them so you can reframe the way you think about your loss.

Knowing this is what led me to write Writing Through Grief and Loss: An IFS Journal for Healing.

I wrote this journal for the countless individuals I’ve had the pleasure of working with over the last 13 years in private practice.

Every day, I am humbled by their resilience and fortitude to keep moving forward.

This is the journal I wish I had when I went through a particularly tough time.

It’s filled with writing prompts, IFS-based reflections, and meditations, all organized around the seasons of a year.

I’ve always loved the changing of the seasons.

They’re the everlasting promise that though nothing stays the same forever, even in the dead of winter, beauty will endure in the glitter of snow.

This journal honors the ebb and flow of grief as it changes throughout the year.

It provides a safe space to explore your inner world, discover meaning amid loss, and find a path toward healing and renewal.

If you’d like to explore Writing Through Grief and Loss: An IFS Journal for Healing, you can download a free sample of the first 27 pages or purchase it in paperback on Amazon.

With it, I hope you’ll embrace the power of writing and let it guide you toward healing, growth, and resilience.

💭 This Week's Journaling Prompt

Think of someone you miss.

Not the story.
Not the loss itself.

Just the feeling of them.

What do you still carry from them —
a phrase, a gesture, a way they made you feel?

Write about what remains,
not what was taken away.

With love and care,

Adina

P.S. Remember: Grief doesn’t move in a straight line. Some days will feel easy and others will be heavy with the weight of your sorrow. This journal was written to help you find healing throughout every season. Click here to download a sample or purchase your copy today.

Hi friend, Are you a fan of Wicked the movie or Broadway musical? If so, you probably already know that it’s not just a story about good versus bad. Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy helps us explore both the Good Witch and Bad Witch parts of ourselves and understand that together, they help us lead from a balanced sense of Self. In IFS Therapy, we call these opposing...

Person walking on a path through a dense forest

Hi friend, Are you tired of struggling with addiction but feel like you’ve already exhausted all of your options? You’ve already tried everything from doctors to psychiatrists to talk therapy to self-help books, but nothing has worked. If this sounds familiar, hypnotherapy could be for you. Despite how powerful hypnotherapy can be, the stigma around it leaves many people skeptical. My client John was one of them. John came to me with a history of chronic substance abuse and an equally long...
