Your journal should be a mirror, not a checklist 🪞

Hi friend,

When I was a little kid, writing in my diary was easy.

I wrote about what happened in school.

What my friends said.

Who I liked (or didn’t like).

It was a safe ritual that let me unload my day before heading to bed for the night.

And I kept up the habit into my adult years.

But one day, I opened my journal and realized that today’s entry could have been copied and pasted from yesterday’s.

It was the same to-do lists, frustrations, and exhaustion repeated, over and over again.

That’s when I realized what I was writing wasn’t actually my truth.

Writing only about what happened during your day feels comfortable. Productive, even. But you're not touching any real emotion.

You never touch the raw edges of joy, fear, grief, or longing.

All real thoughts or emotions get pushed off to the side.

My journaling only became a true reflection of myself when I discovered expressive writing and timed prompts.

Expressive writing is very detailed writing. It helps us process what we've been through AND envision a path to move forward.

It’s a way to let your page become a mirror reflection of the real you.

✒️ To explore emotions you never considered before.
✒️ To wonder about yourself and how to interact with what’s around you.
✒️ To acknowledge your parts that have been left in the dark.

When you write from that place, you enter what I think of as the labyrinth.

Not a maze but one single, winding path that inevitably leads to your truth at the center. ☸️

The journey to get there may feel long, but each step moves you closer to what’s essential.

If you’ve never tried expressive writing before, a great way to start is with a timed prompt.

In my Writing Bravely program, I guide you through timed prompts to help explore and express your deepest parts and emotions.

It’s a calm, weekly space where we write and heal together.

No pressure to share, just gentle prompts, real connection, and a safe place to step into your own labyrinth and turn your writing into a true mirror of you.

Ready to write your way to healing?

💭 This Week's Journaling Prompt

Set your timer for 10 minutes:

Choose one—joy, fear, grief, or longing.

Let it speak through your pen.

Start with: ‘If I let this [emotion] speak freely, it would say…’

With courage and ink,

Adina

P.S. If your journaling feels like a laundry list, you’re not alone. Writing Bravely helps you break that loop—and write into the heart of what’s real. Join us here.

Hi friend, Are you a fan of Wicked the movie or Broadway musical? If so, you probably already know that it’s not just a story about good versus bad. It’s a tale of identity, vulnerability, and the tension between seeking external validation and staying true to oneself. Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy helps us explore both the Good Witch and Bad Witch parts of ourselves and understand that together, they help us lead from a balanced sense of Self. In IFS Therapy, we call these opposing...

Hi friend, As a therapist, I see grief and loss up close and personal. I watch as clients run their hands across my faux leather chairs, hands faltering as if wanting to hold onto loved ones that will never come back. I listen as they speak about exes, mothers, fathers, or partners as if they can still hear them – even though they’re long gone. I sit in silence as sobs rush out, bringing with them a torrent of sorrow, pain, anger, longing, and love. But I don’t offer hope that things will get...

Hi friend, Are you tired of struggling with addiction but feel like you’ve already exhausted all of your options? You’ve already tried everything from doctors to psychiatrists to talk therapy to self-help books, but nothing has worked. If this sounds familiar, hypnotherapy could be for you. Despite how powerful hypnotherapy can be, the stigma around it leaves many people skeptical. My client John was one of them. John came to me with a history of chronic substance abuse and an equally long...
